Welcome to Spora Stories!

We create original drama for stage and screen, telling the dynamic stories of the African diaspora. We’re inspired by the vigour, ambition and global impact of both Nigerian popular cinema and of contemporary British theatre, and the commercial potential of both. Our passion is for great stories, well told.

Our stories deliver the most compelling characters in the most gripping situations. Africans, Europeans, ‘Afropeans’ … British-Africans, African-Americans, ‘Afro-politans’ … Londoners in Lagos, Lagosians in London … the teaming traffic of peoples and stories jostling for expression in the swirl of the 21st century world. The sparks – and stories – flying from the collision between Africa and Europe: close encounters of the creative kind. “One hand can’t clap,” goes the African saying. What kind of stories leap out from this ‘clap’ between worlds?

We create plays, films, publications, debates, platforms, education and community events, all engaging with the African diaspora experience, and all striving to bring underserved and new audiences to the arts.

Our vision is to harness in drama these exciting times: to tap into the wave of Afro-optimism bubbling across the continent and the diaspora; to develop new, entertaining and exciting contemporary work; and to reflect – and dissect – African experience in modern Britain, America and Africa.

“We carry within us the wonders we seek without us,
There is all Africa and her prodigies in us.”
Sir Thomas Browne, Religio Medici, 1642
